Joshua Hinton, of Stratford, was arrested Thursday, July 19, after officers with the Narcotics and Organized Crime Squad received intel that he planned to visit the motel with the gun, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin.

Members of the squad, along with members of the Strategic Response Team and the patrol unit set up on the motel to wait for his arrival, Conklin said.

Around 4 p.m., an older model Toyota pulled into the rear parking lot and the team, who made a positive identification that it was Hinton off a photo, moved in and blocked his car in, Conklin said.

Officers found the gun in the glove compartment of the vehicle. Hinton, a convicted felon for charges ranging from selling drugs to engaging police in a pursuit, is not all to have a gun, he added.

Once recovered, officers found that the gun, which was loaded with one round in the chamber and seven in the magazine, serial numbers had been defaced. They also recovered a box of ammunition.

He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

"Very nice job of getting a dangerous convicted felon off the streets," said Conklin.

Hinton is being held in lieu of $150,000 bond and is due to appear in court on Aug.2.
